BUMP(Boardman United Methodist Preschool) began as a preschool years ago and in 1990 the childcare aspect was launched.

After undergoing a comprehensive self-study, we received our 1 Star through Step Up to Quality. This past year we went from a 4 Star to a 5 Star. In order to become a star-rated center, we were required to meet the criteria the state requires of each level of their star rating. This is a voluntary program meeting higher levels of care and early learning. Therefore the greater the number of stars, the more is required of a center to receive this honor.

BUMP has been unique since it opened, looking at your childs social, emotional, physical and intellectual development. We are so fortunate to have trained, caring and devoted teachers who have given years in the classroom providing positive interaction and attention to your child to give them the very best tools needed to succeed in school. Our children are truly our number one concern.

Our mission as an outreach program of Boardman United Methodist Church, BUMP exists to fulfill the mission statement of the church, which states in part, "...to sensitively identify the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of those within and outside of our community and to respond to specific personal and/or group action."  We believe it is important for children to be in a safe, faith-based setting with staff who demonstrate love, warmth and care.

Philosophy: We believe that the preschool years are very important years in the development of a child.  They are the years of learning to relate to others and of acquiring skills that provide a foundation for later learning.  We are a play-based center following Developmentally Appropriate Practices using the Ohio Guidelines for infants and toddlers, Ohio's Early Learning Content Standards, and Creative Curriculum as our guidelines.  We are not interested in pushing a child's educational experience; we are interested in setting free and cultivating a child's abilities and interests.  This is just a continuation of what you, as concerned parents have begun at home.  Working together, we can help your child to develop to his or her full potential.
